Lymphedema Outreach in Uganda: Bringing Hope to Communities in Kanungu District
At Maramagambo Community Medical Centre in Kanungu District, together with our community in the Kigezi region of Western Uganda, we carried out a special outreach program to support people living with lymphedema in Uganda.
Lymphedema remains a major but often overlooked health challenge across many parts of Africa, especially in rural and underserved communities where access to treatment, compression therapy, and specialized care is limited. Through this outreach, Lymphedema Warriors Association Uganda (LWAU) continues its mission of improving lymphedema awareness, patient support, and access to care in Uganda and across Africa.

During the outreach, compression garments were provided to people in need bringing not only treatment, but also relief, dignity, and renewed hope to individuals and families affected by lymphedema.
For many patients living with lymphedema in rural Uganda, receiving proper care can be difficult due to transport challenges, limited medical resources, and lack of awareness about the condition. Simple interventions such as compression therapy, patient education, and community support can greatly improve mobility, reduce discomfort, and help prevent complications.
For those we reached in Kanungu District, this outreach was more than medical support it was a step toward reclaiming their daily lives and improving their quality of life while living with lymphedema.
At Lymphedema Warriors Association Uganda, we believe that access to lymphedema care should not depend on where someone lives. Through strong local partnerships, community outreach programs, awareness campaigns, and continued capacity building, we are working to strengthen lymphedema care in Uganda and contribute to greater awareness of lymphedema in Africa.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who continues to support our mission. This outreach would not have been possible without your donations, encouragement, and belief in the work we are doing.
Together, we are bringing hope, awareness, and lymphedema support to communities that need it most.
